This month we are celebrating a long-standing successful partnership.

Fulbright Portugal is the Portuguese branch of the Fulbright Programme, an academic exchange programme which enables students and scholars to study, teach, or conduct research in the United States. Our five-year partnership with them is built on mutual support, as each entity amplifies the other’s reach by spreading the word about their mission, opportunities and achievements. A success which traces back to when Joana Bordalo, Native Scientists' Deputy Director, joined the Fulbright Programme six years ago.

“Fulbright gave me an opportunity to learn, grow, and expand my horizons while Native Scientists was the platform to transform those experiences into action,” says Bordalo. Five years later, the partnership continues to show how individual opportunities can grow into collective impact, and how connections built through education can create opportunities for others.

Sofia Wahnon, Coordinator of the Fulbright’s Programme for Portuguese People, shares how they are “especially proud that this partnership grew out of the Fulbright journey of one of our own grantees, reminding us that the Fulbright experience can extend far beyond an individual academic journey.” She adds, “we are delighted to continue supporting an initiative that so closely reflects our mission of building meaningful connections and creating positive impact. We hope this partnership will continue to thrive for many years to come.”

Native Scientists is grateful to Fulbright Portugal for these five years of shared visibility and support and look forward to many more to come. Collaborations like this are a reminder of how giving opportunities to people can unlock a plethora of possibilities.
