Native Scientists attended the annual conference with three scientific and pedagogical contributions on inclusive science communication.
Native Scientists participated in SciComPT 2026, held in Évora, with three presentations that deepened the discussion on inclusive, sustainable, and culturally rooted science communication — in line with the conference's core themes: Memory, Identity, and Sustainability.

Three perspectives, one mission
Sara Michels, Beatriz Morais, and Margarida Morim represented the organisation across four days of conference, each with a distinct contribution on how science, education, and culture intersect in building more informed and more equitable societies.
Sara Michels presented research on the Draw-a-Scientist Test, exploring what children imagine when they think of a scientist and how the language they speak influences those representations. The study shows that, while certain stereotypes persist, educational interventions can open space for more plural and inclusive images.
Beatriz Morais shared the results of a systematic review on Science Capital, drawing on international evidence about the social, cultural, and family factors that shape engagement with science and highlighting the importance of educational policies that recognise and address these inequalities.
Margarida Morim offered a practice-based reflection on the role of science communication in the everyday life of communities. Drawing on Native Scientists' work, she showed how participatory approaches, sensitive to cultural context and oriented towards sustainability, can transform the relationship between science and society.
More than a conference
Beyond the formal sessions, SciComPT was also a space for reconnection and community between long-standing colleagues, newcomers bringing fresh energy, and a shared collective will to make science communication more equitable and transformative.
Native Scientists' participation in SciComPT 2026 reinforces the organisation's commitment to promoting scientific literacy in underserved communities, valuing linguistic and cultural identities as part of a truly inclusive science education.
